The problem
A payment gateway can fail while your site stays up.
A gateway can reject payments, time out or return errors while every page still loads. Uptime tools cannot see it, because nothing looks down.
Most store owners find out from a customer, or from a dip in sales days later. By then the lost orders are gone.

Common causes
Why WooCommerce payments fail
Payment problems come from many places. PRO shows you the effect, failed and slow payments, and records plugin changes and checkout errors that help you find the cause.
Gateway-side errors
The payment provider returns errors or is partly unavailable.
Expired or changed credentials
An API key is rotated, revoked or entered wrongly after a change.
Plugin conflicts
Another plugin interferes with the payment fields or the order flow.
Checkout JavaScript errors
A script error stops the payment form from submitting.
Webhook or callback problems
Orders are paid but never confirmed because the callback fails.
Slow confirmation
Payments take so long to confirm that customers give up or retry.
What PRO monitors
What does WooCommerce payment monitoring check?
Each row describes what Commerce Health PRO actually records, for each payment method on your store.
| Area | What PRO watches |
|---|---|
| Failure rate per gateway | Failed versus successful payments for each payment method, over a rolling hour. |
| Confirmation time | How long successful payments take from order creation to confirmation. Flagged when the average reaches 8 seconds. |
| Severity | With three or more attempts, a failure rate of 10% is Low, 20% is Medium and 25% is Critical. With fewer attempts, a failed payment is noted as Low. |
| Alerts and history | Problems appear on your Issues screen and Overview, and a critical issue can trigger the critical-issue email. |
| Plugin changes and checkout errors | Plugin updates and checkout JavaScript errors are recorded too, to help you find the cause. |
| Last 24 hours | Completed checkouts and average checkout duration on your Overview. |
How it knows: PRO learns from your real orders. It does not test your gateway, place test payments, or watch the gateway from outside your store. Orders with no payment method, such as zero-value or manual orders, are not counted. It works with any gateway that completes orders through WooCommerce's standard payment hooks.
At a glance
See every gateway on one screen.
The Payments screen lists each gateway with its average response, failure rate and status: Healthy, Needs a look, Degraded or Critical. You can filter by status to see what needs attention first.
- Per-gateway failure rate
- Confirmation time
- Critical-issue email
| Gateway | Avg. response | Failure rate | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe | 2.1s | 1% | Healthy |
| PayPal | 3.4s | 12% | Needs a look |
| Razorpay | 4.8s | 21% | Degraded |

FAQ
Questions about WooCommerce payment monitoring
What is WooCommerce payment monitoring?
It means tracking how often payments succeed or fail for each gateway on your store, and how long they take to confirm, so a failing gateway is flagged early instead of being found later through lost sales.
Why do WooCommerce payments fail?
Common causes are errors on the gateway side, expired or changed API credentials, plugin conflicts, checkout JavaScript errors, webhook problems and slow confirmation. Any of them can break payments while the rest of the site works.
Does Commerce Health monitor my payment gateway directly?
No. PRO learns from your real orders: which payments succeed, which fail and how long they take. It does not test the gateway, place test payments, or report a gateway outage on its own.
Which payment gateways does it work with?
Any gateway that completes orders through WooCommerce's standard payment hooks. Each payment method is tracked separately.
How quickly will I know about a problem?
Payments are recorded as they happen and evaluated on a five-minute check. It needs real orders to work with, so on a low-traffic store a single failed payment is noted as a Low issue instead of a percentage.
Does it store card or customer data?
No. It records the gateway name, timing and order number, never card details or customer personal data, and the data stays on your own site.
Is payment monitoring available for free?
The free plugin checks your payment and checkout configuration on demand. Continuous per-gateway monitoring is part of PRO.
