KODENZO Commerce Health

Know when your WooCommerce checkout stops working.

Your site can be online, your homepage can load, and WooCommerce can look healthy, while customers quietly fail to complete their purchase. Commerce Health watches the signals that show it, so you find out before they tell you.

The problem

Your WooCommerce store can be online while your checkout is broken.

Uptime tools check that your site responds. They do not know that a plugin update broke the payment button last night. Most store owners learn about it from a lost sale or a customer email, often days later.

Checkout is where WooCommerce, your theme, your payment gateway and every extra plugin meet. A change in any one of them can break it without taking the site down.

Common causes

Why WooCommerce checkout stops working

These are the usual suspects we have spent a decade fixing for WooCommerce clients.

  • Plugin updates and conflicts

One update changes how another plugin behaves at checkout.

  • JavaScript errors

A script error stops the place-order button or the payment fields from working.

  • Payment gateway failures

Orders start failing while the rest of the store looks normal.

  • Shipping configuration

A missing or invalid shipping method leaves customers with nothing to choose.

  • Slow checkout

Real customers wait too long and give up before paying.

  • Theme and coupon problems

Template overrides or expired coupons break the flow quietly.

Recent real-world failures

Checkout problems start with ordinary changes

Two recent, publicly documented WooCommerce cases. Neither is about Commerce Health. They show how a checkout problem can begin quietly.

  • WooCommerce issue #69657 · reported 9 October 2026 · open when last checked

Charged, but the order stays "Pending payment"

A store owner reported that opening the order-pay page can change a pending order's payment method to the customer's saved-card gateway, while the order still shows the gateway actually used. In the report, a customer was charged and the order stayed in Pending payment. It was reported on WooCommerce 10.8.1 with the Checkout block and high-performance order storage, and a maintainer has confirmed it as a bug.

What it shows: an order can look unpaid while the customer believes they paid, with no error on the page. If you offer saved cards on more than one gateway, test paying with one gateway as a customer who has a saved card on another, and look at your recent Pending payment orders.

  • WooCommerce 10.9.0 · pulled in June 2026

A WooCommerce release pulled over an older payment extension

WooCommerce temporarily pulled version 10.9.0 because it conflicted with older versions of the WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway extension. Stores running 10.9.0 with the latest Stripe extension were not affected. WooCommerce 10.9.1 is described as the first stable release of the 10.9 series.

What it shows: a WooCommerce update and a payment extension can clash depending on the extension's version. Keep payment extensions current, and test checkout after every update.

What PRO monitors

What does WooCommerce checkout monitoring check?

Each row is something Commerce Health PRO actually records and reports on your Overview.

What Commerce Health PRO watches on a WooCommerce checkout
AreaWhat PRO watches
PaymentsSuccessful and failed payment events from real orders, so a rising failure rate stands out.
Checkout JavaScriptJavaScript errors reported from your checkout page.
Plugin changesPlugin activations, deactivations and updates, correlated with checkout problems that follow.
Checkout speedReal-visitor checkout performance (Core Web Vitals).
Shipping, theme and couponsAutomatic re-checks of shipping validity, theme compatibility and coupon validity.
Stuck paymentsOrders left in Pending payment more often than usual for a gateway, from order counts only.
Cart and checkout pagesLoads the cart and checkout pages every 10 minutes and flags one that keeps failing to load.
Store healthAll 37 diagnostic checks (34 free and 3 PRO) re-run in the background, on the interval you choose.
What to do nextRecommendations, a health score with history, and a weekly summary email.

How it knows: PRO learns from real activity on your store (orders, errors, plugin changes) and from its own scheduled checks. It does not place test orders. Its Checkout test button walks the cart and checkout pages without creating an order, and cannot see JavaScript or card problems.

Proof it is working

FAQ

Questions about WooCommerce checkout monitoring

What is WooCommerce checkout monitoring?

It means watching the signals that show your checkout is struggling, such as payment failures, JavaScript errors and recent plugin changes, so you hear about a problem from the plugin instead of from a customer.

Why can WooCommerce checkout stop working?

The most common causes are plugin updates and conflicts, JavaScript errors, payment gateway problems, shipping configuration, a slow checkout, and theme or coupon issues. Any one of them can break checkout while the rest of the site keeps working.

Does Commerce Health place test orders?

No. PRO learns from real activity on your store and from its own read-only checks. It never creates test orders.

Can it detect payment problems?

PRO records successful and failed payment events and flags unusual failure patterns. It also flags a gateway whose orders are left in Pending payment more often than usual, or where orders start for 24 hours and none is paid or fails. It does not watch your payment gateway from outside your store, so it cannot report a gateway outage on its own, and it cannot tell ordinary abandonment from a fault.

Will it slow down my checkout?

The checkout listener is lightweight and loads only on the checkout page. Everything else runs in the background on a schedule.

Is WooCommerce checkout monitoring available for free?

The free plugin diagnoses your store on demand, with 34 read-only checks and a health score. Continuous monitoring in the background is part of PRO.

Does it send my store data to Kodenzo?

No. Monitoring data stays on your own site.

Do not wait for a customer to tell you checkout is broken.

Monitor the parts of your store that keep it selling.
