The Challenge

Where This Started.

Before

  • Points redeemable anywhere, by anyone
  • No identity verification required at redemption
  • Stock myCred plugin had no location-aware redemption rules

After

  • Location-based redemption rules layered onto myCred
  • Identity verification required before any redemption
  • Existing myCred point ledger preserved as the source of truth

Business Impact

Why It Mattered

Loyalty programs lose credibility fast if points can be redeemed anywhere, by anyone, with no verification — the business needed the trust and control of a verified, location-aware system.

Engineering Approach

How We Approached It

Rather than replacing myCred, extended it with a custom verification and location layer — preserving its existing point-accounting engine while adding the business-specific rules on top.

Architecture

How It's Wired Together.

A verification module sits between the customer-facing redemption request and myCred's core point ledger, checking both the member's verified identity and the redeeming location before any point deduction is committed.

Implementation

What We Built

Built custom myCred hooks for location-scoped redemption rules and an identity verification step tied to member accounts, keeping myCred's underlying point ledger as the source of truth throughout.

Technical Highlights

What Made This Work.

  • Location-based redemption rules layered onto myCred

  • Identity verification required before point redemption

  • Existing myCred point ledger preserved as the system of record

Results

The Outcome.

A loyalty program the business can trust — points can only be redeemed by verified members at approved locations, closing the gap the stock plugin left open.

Lessons Learned

What This Taught Us

Extending a mature plugin like myCred with a custom verification layer preserved months of existing point-accounting logic that would have been costly to rebuild from scratch — worth customizing over replacing when the core engine is already solid.
